Will be performed by Steve Bowerman, auctioneer, at 7 pm.

Rules & Guidelines for a Traceroute Auction

Rules & Guidelines for a Traceroute Auction

- The auctioneer - Steve Bowerman - holds in front of him a list of internet IP addresses making up the different hops to get through the course of the traceroute between Kadist-Paris and Kadist-San Francisco.
- The auction opens with the auctioneer announcing the first IP address (belonging to Kadist-Paris) and first bid; bidding continues with audience participation.
- Each bid serves as one step, advancing along the internet pathway (traceroute). The performance comes to its end once the last hop is reached and the auctioneer announces the name and IP address of Kadist-San Francisco as the destination.
- The number of hops is not previously known by the audience and/or bidders.

The Artwork:

- The artwork acquired is the sound recording of the bidding performance itself and burned on a CD with a specialy designed cover signed by the authors of the piece: Olive Martin, Patrick Bernier and Steve Bowerman.
- The artwork is a multiple. The number of multiples is determined by the number of bidders (from the audience) involved in the auction. Those iniduals participating in the auction (and who bid at least once) will receive a copy (one of the multiple) of the work.
- The monetary value of the artwork is determined by the increment value multiplied by the number of hops.
- The duration of the performance and piece is dependent on the rhythm of the bidders.
- The final bidder receives the first audio multiple of the performance at the price of the last bid. The second multiple is given to the bidder prior at the amount he bidded, and so on.
- In case the bidding does not reach the last hop and Kadist-San Francisco IP address, the piece will be considered as aborted.
